ActionPoint’s annual FYP award, in conjunction with UL, looks for excellence in design, innovation, rigour and also commerciality in computer science final year projects.

Who are we?

ActionPoint is a custom software development company founded by two UL CSIS graduates, John Savage and David Jeffreys. The company currently employs 80+ staff and is headquartered on campus in the University of Limerick.

What are we looking for?

Entrants will be judged on a combination of Technical Design, Project Innovation, Rigour and Commerciality.

What technology/tools do you need to use?

We have no preference. Whatever you feel is the most appropriate to deliver your project.

Who can enter?

The competition is open to those FYP students who were nominated by their supervisors, as notified by the FYP coordinator.

How do you enter?

Apply with your name, email address and a brief (max one-page) summary of what your project is and how it works to fyp@actionpoint.ie by Friday 10th April, 2020.

Will the entry require much work?

No! Your one-pager should contain your project abstract and a brief note on why you see it as the best FYP this year.

How do you know if your application has been accepted?

All entrants will receive a notification email by 12pm the next working day.

What is the prize?

The winner will WIN €750, while the reward for runner-up is €250. Prizes aside, placing well in this competition will certainly stand to you should you wish to interview for a position at ActionPoint.

When will the prize be awarded?

The prize will be awarded on FYP demo day. All entrants must be present on demo day to demonstrate their project to the Senior members of the ActionPoint Development Team to be eligible for the prize.

Any questions?

Send us an email with any questions to fyp@actionpoint.ie.

Are we hiring graduates?

We are always on the look-out for talented developers looking for an exciting challenge with interesting technologies. If you think you’re up to the challenge, send us a mail at graduateprogramme@actionpoint.ie.

Are there small print T&Cs?

Yes, but nothing crazy:

1) The prize will be judged by Senior ActionPoint staff based on a shortlist agreed in collaboration with CSIS lecturers. The ActionPoint Judges’ decision is final.

2) In the event of a tie, the ActionPoint judges reserve the right to split any of the prizes as appropriate.

3) There is a minimum of 6 entrants required to run the competition.
