Members of the ActionPoint team have decided to get fit, get healthy and happy and support a very worthy cause by participating in the Barringtons Hospital Great Limerick Run for Special Olympics Ireland. Fourteen members of the team are going to run and walk the Half Marathon on May 4th in the hope of raising vital funds in support of Special Olympics Ireland.

Speaking of ActionPoint’s involvement, David Jeffreys, MD of ActionPoint, said ‘We decided to run as part of the Great Limerick Run Fittest Company Challenge to get fit and have some fun while doing so. When we heard that Special Olympics Ireland were the official charity partner we decided that we would also come together to raise money in support of the 1,500 athletes coming to Limerick this June for the Special Olympics Ireland Games.’

On Monday March 10th, we were lucky enough to be invited to the launch of the Special Olympics Ireland as official charity sponsor of the Great Limerick Run. We had a great time lending our support and meeting some of the athletes involved.The launch took place at the University of Limerick and we’d like to thank Special Olympics Ireland and ILoveLimerick for inviting us.

The Great Limerick Run and Special Olympics Ireland.
The Barringtons Hospital Great Limerick Run is now an annual event which takes place in Limerick, and is all about encouraging individuals to achieve their personal goals and get fit and healthy. It is now the fastest growing participatory event in Ireland with over 10,000 race entrants registered in 2013. Special Olympics Ireland is a year-round sports training and competition programme for people with intellectual disability. They currently have over 11,000 registered athletes participating in a variety of sports activities throughout Ireland.The vital funds raised through participation in the Great Limerick Run will greatly benefit the participating athletes and the future of the Special Olympics programme.
